FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX

Flight of the Phoenix was created in collaboration with MFA students and faculty Jessica Thebus and Dassia Posner as a way of gathering in a large public spectacle of renewal and life. There were five large bird puppets designed and fabricated by MFA Designers. Nora was the “Bird Design Captain” and facilitated the process as well as designed the 20 smaller bird puppets built by undergraduate students and her own 18’ Blue Heron Puppet. Each bird was modeled on local bird populations, mirroring Nora’s interest in ornithology. As the bird took flight, they converged in a circle and met an enormous dragon puppet, where they transformed into fire colors and made their way across Northwestern Campus. Local community members were invited to this family friendly outdoor event in June 2020.
